2007 Audi A5

The all-new Audi A5 Coupe was introduced by the German manufacturer at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. Aiming to challenge rivals BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class on the luxury coupe segment, the new Audi A5 was based on the innovative Modular Longitudinal Platform and had its powertrain repositioned behind the front axle (for better weight distribution and corner stability). Its 3.2L FSI V6 unit delivered 265 PS and was mated to the newly-developed ‘quattro’ permanent all-wheel-drive system. A sportier S5 variant was also developed in 2007, featuring a 354-PS 4.2L Fuel Stratified Injection V8 powerplant.

The M-Theory adds several sporty exterior enhancements including unique Speedway Blue paint with matching rear deck lid spoiler, a large chrome exhaust tip and M-Theory badges. M-theory also features 17-inch Caldina alloy wheels with P215/50R17 tires, four wheel disc brakes, logo floor mats, and an individually numbered limited edition plaque. The M-Theory will also feature enhanced vehicle handling thanks to a standard sport tuned suspension and sport strut tower brace will also enhance vehicle handling.

Only 2,500 units of the special edition Matrix M-Theory will be built. The Matrix M-Theory special edition package will carry a base manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $1,500.

2007 BMW 3-series Coupe

Known internally as the E92, the two-door version of BMW’s bread-and-butter car tempers some of the four-door’s polarizing lines–and introduces a few new technical features to go along with the new sheetmetal. Molded plastic front fenders (like those used on the 6-series) and electric power steering (as on the Z4) make their first 3-series appearance, but the real news lies in the two-door’s new powerplant. The coupe’s available 3.0-liter twin-turbo is BMW’s first in two decades and also the first home for its new direct-injection system. (A revised, 328i-badged version of the current 3.0-liter also will be available.) BMW recently announced that the 3-series sedans will get these new engines for 2007.
